Over the objections of a team that submitted a lower bid, the U.S. Government Accountability Office has upheld the U.S. Energy Department's (DoE) decision to award a Savannah River contract to a Fluor Corp.-led team.rnThe federal government watchdog rejected the bid protest from the Washington division of URS Corp., formerly Boise-based Washington Group International, which has held the federal contract for managing nuclear waste at DoE's Savannah River site in Aiken, S.C., since 1989.rnThe contract is worth $4 billion over the next five years and up to twice-that over the next decade.rnGAO concluded that it was reasonable for DoE to award the contract to Fluor, noting that, even if its bid was higher than URS Corp.'s, Fluor's "superior key personnel were worth the additional price."
