DoE Considers 2nd Repository To Compensate for Yucca's Delay

A top U.S. Energy Department (DoE) official says his agency plans to release a report in the next few months outlining plans for building a second high-level nuclear waste repository in the United States. Edward Sproat, the director of DoE's radioactive waste management program, told a House Appropriations Committee panel that his department will publish the report as early as June-just about the same time that his office is scheduled to submit Yucca Mountain's license application to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
