NRC Weighs in on Japan Disaster

The NRC dispatched nearly a dozen experts to Tokyo to help the Japanese government handle the explosion of a nuclear reactor and the shutdown of dozens of others following the nation's devastating earthquake and subsequent tsunami. Acting as part of a U.S. Agency for International Development assistance team, those dispatched have expertise in reactor design and international affairs. A senior manager from four NRC operating regions - in Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Maryland and Atlanta — also went abroad.
