WSDH Begins Review of Shipment of Plutonium-Contaminated Gloveboxes

The Washington State Department of Health (WSDH) began a review of shipments of plutonium-contaminated gloveboxes from the Hanford nuclear site to the Perma-Fix Northwest plant in Richland after plutonium contamination was found on plant equipment. Seattle-based watchdog organization Hanford Challenge reported in a news release that on June 19 the Hanford contractor discovered radiation contamination when unloading a shipping container from the Hanford site. The shipment carried two glovebox sections containing plutonium and americium.
