United States and Ukrainian officials announced the U.S. will assist Ukraine on nuclear security issues, including complete removal of highly enriched uranium. Ukraine President Viktor Yanukovych and U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman reported the effort by the two nations includes work by Ukraine to introduce new technology that would replace highly enriched uranium with low-enriched uranium.
