German politicians, scientists, environmental groups and the public are engaged in a debate over how to deal with approximately 126,000 barrels of radioactive waste which were dumped into a salt mine for half a century.However, the first step in the process is to find the containers.News reports say that for seven months, a specialized drilling team has been working to locate the material placed in chambers of Asse II, a salt and potash mine near the northern German town of Remlingen.
