摘要

The selection process for the final disposal site for radioactive waste from nuclear power plants has moved into a full-fledged phase at last. Top officials at the Nuclear Waste Management Organization of Japan (NUMO), charged with the selection and construction of the final disposal facilities, were replaced last month by the government in view of the planned restart of nuclear power plant operations. The shake-up reflects the need to push forward the selection process, which has been stalled for more than 10 years, in a bid to prevent the reactivation of nuclear power plant reactors from becoming adversely affected.
