Jack Trap

During a recent INPO evaluation at Braidwood Station concerns were brought up about the electrical safety and accidental contact with neighboring electrical points during terminal block testing utilizing banana jack ports. (See Graphic 1) Industry and Braidwood Operational Experience (OPEX) have shown that the banana jack test lead has been inserted into the wrong port and/or mistakenly brought into contact which energized parts of the terminal strip and have caused unexpected actuations of plant equipment and even unit trips. After receiving the INPO team feedback James Walcher set out to develop a fool proof way to implement testing on terminal strips. This development took the next 11/2 years land 25 iterations to get to all the design and functional attri-butes: 1. Improve Electrical Safety. 2. Improve Human Performance (HU Tools). 3. Improve Technical Human Performance (THU Tools). 4. Improved Efficiencies. 5. Install in 5 seconds or less. 6. Can be used on any make or configuration of a banana jack port. 7. Cost less than $5 a unit. 8. Easily fits into a workers pocket.
