The AMS testing of sensors and cables in China began by LCSR measurements on RTDs at cold shutdown. The LCSR tests at cold shutdown do not provide the response times of the RTDs; rather, they help determine if RTDs are properly installed in their thermowells. Any RTD that is found at cold shutdown to have installation or seating problems is removed from the thermowell and both the RTD and thermowell are cleaned and re-installed. The LCSR tests are then repeated to ensure that the problem is resolved. If the problem persists, then the RTD is replaced and this procedure is repeated until all RTDs are properly installed and seated in their thermowells. At the Sanmen and Haiyang plants, only a few RTDs had to be removed and reseated, or replaced, to yield optimum response times.
