In another turn in what has been an eventful journey toward a permanent resting place for the nation's spent nuclear fttel, the Department of Energy's latest move is to announce that it intends to devise a plan to operate the proposed Yucca Mountain repository in a "clean," or non-contaminated, condition. Opponents are scoffing at the plan, saying it has been proposed only to disguise the fact that the "science is bad" for the whole Yucca Mountain program.
