摘要

A spent fuel storage facility proposed for siting in Utah gained momentum in February when a Nuclear Regulatory Commission judicial board, although divided, issued a decision in favor of Private Fuel Storage (PFS), the consortium that plans to build and operate the project. John Parkyn, chairman and chief executive officer of PFS, told Nuclear News on March 4 that he has "a careful confidence" that the project will move forward to completion, even though hurdles remain in the way. In a ruling announced on February 24, an NRC Atomic Safety and Licensing Board (ASLB) issued a 2-1 decision in favor of PFS, rejecting the state of Utah's assertion that aircraft from the nearby Hill Air Force Base could crash into the storage facility and cause a radiation release.
