The Beta Bar finally reopened after six discouraging months of flood cleanup. Owners Fritz and Millie Brauhaus, with their employees and friends, shoveled out mud, hosed and disinfected everything, bought new furniture and appliances, ran up a huge debt, and opened the door. We regulars flocked in to our regular places at bar stools or booths and ordered up Old Rottslager (still the world's most robust beer because it is brewed with flood water from Orange Creek). Gloria the waitress was there, dispensing food and drink, calling everybody "Hon," and reading tarot cards and tea leaves at a back table, still prognosticating more accurately than a university-trained consultant with a computer.
