United States puts direct talks on the table

Secretary of State Rice says the U.S. is willing to join in talks with Iran if it agrees to suspend enrichment and reprocessing activities. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said that the United States was ready to join the EU-3 (Britain, France, and Germany) in talks with Iran— once Iran responds positively to calls to suspend its enrichment-related and reprocessing activities. It is time, Rice said, for Iran to say whether or not it is serious about negotiation. "If Iran really wants a negotiated solution, it can suspend its enrichment-related activities, and we can sit down at the table and talk about how to get to a civil nuclear program that is acceptable to the international community."
