On-site T leaks greater than Exelon thought

Evidence of tritium leaks from a discharge pipe have been detected in an off-site drinking water well, but levels are far below EPA limits. Thomas O'Neill, Exelon Nuclear's vice president of regulatory affairs, said on January 25 that a series of discoveries related to tritium leaks in 1998 and 2000 at the two-reactor Braid-wood plant is "a black eye for Exelon Nuclear." Laboratory tests by both Exelon and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission have found no off-site levels above federal Environmental Protection Agency limits for tritium in drinking water, although the level in one well was found to be about 7 percent of the EPA limit.
