A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed on December 26 by Kazakhstan's JSC National Atomic Company Kazatomprom and the Japanese firms Kansai Electric Power Company, Nuclear Fuel Industries, and Sumitomo Corporation, confirming their intent to cooperate in the processing of nuclear fuel for Kansai's 11 nuclear power plants in Japan. In accordance with the signed document, Kazatomprom's Ulba metallurgical plant will process and export uranium dioxide powder that will be used for manufacturing fuel assemblies to be supplied to Kansai's nuclear plants.
