NRC issues violation notice to Wal-Mart

After an eight-month investigation, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission has cited Wal-Mart Stores Inc. with four violations of NRC regulations for the disposal and transfer of tritium-bearing exit signs at stores throughout the United States and in Puerto Rico. This does not include Wal-Mart operations, in agreement states, where individual state agencies have the authority to take action in this matter.rnThe October 28 action by the NRC cited Wal-Mart for improper transfer or disposal of 2462 exit signs; improper transfer of an additional 517 signs between Wal-Mart facilities; failure to appoint an official responsible for compliance with relevant regulations; and failure to report broken or damaged signs as required.
