Mongolia signed a nuclear cooperation agreement with Japan on July 16 during a visit there by Mongolian Prime Minister Sanjaagiin Bayar. The agreement was signed by Toru Ishida, director-general of Japan's Agency for Natural Resources and Energy, and Sondomyn Enkhbat, head of Mongolia's Department of Atomic Energy. Under the agreement, the two organizations will cooperate in developing investment possibilities to exploit Mongolia's uranium resources, which, according to the Japan Atomic Industrial Forum, are estimated at about 62 000 metric tons, and will also exchange information and personnel.
