Nrc Issues Ser For Early Site Permit

On February 4, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff issued its final safety evaluation report (SER) for Southern Nuclear Operating Company's request for an early site permit (ESP) and limited work authorization (LWA) for two proposed new reactors at the Vogtle site in Georgia. The SER is the last document related to the request, which is scheduled to undergo both its contested and mandatory hearings before an Atomic Safety and Licensing Board during the latter half of March. The ASLB has also scheduled limited appearance statement opportunities in March on both the ESP proceeding and Southern's concurrent application for a combined construction and operating license (COL) for the new reactors, Vogtle-3 and -4.
