One of two watts bar-2 contentions was dismissed by thernpresiding Atomic Safety and Licensing Board (ASLB) on June 2. The Tennessee Valley Authority had filed a motion with the ASLB for summary disposition of the contention, which concerns TVA's compliance with state and federal permits, based on information provided by TVA. The intervenor in the proceeding, the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy (SACE), a citizen organization, had told the ASLB in May that it did not oppose TVA's motion to dismiss the contention. The remaining admitted contention from SACE is in regard to the aquatic impacts of the operation of a second reactor at the Watts Bar site in Tennessee, including the effects of thermal discharge on fish. TVA may also seek summary disposition on this issue. If the contention is dismissed, the hearing on the operating license may not have to take place.
