Urenco's uranium enrichment capacity grows in 2009

Urenco reported on January 25 that its uranium enrichment capacity expanded in 2009 at its three enrichment plants in Europe, with about 1.2 million separative work units (SWU, the amount of separation achieved by an enrichment process) added by year-end, bringing the total capacity to 12.2 SWU.rnThe expansion of Urenco's Almelo site at Overijssel, in the Netherlands, progressed well, the company said, with the completion of Hall 5 and the start of construction for the installation of Hall 6. Also in 2009, the company's board approved the further expansion of the two cascade halls, with work expected to begin during the second half of 2010.
