Energy security and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions are two key national energy priorities that can be met in a sustainable manner through nuclear power. The development of de-ployable small modular reactors (SMR) can provide the United States with another economically viable energy option, diversify the available nuclear power alternatives, and enhance U.S. economic competitiveness by ensuring a domestic capability to supply demonstrated reactor technology to a growing global market for clean and affordable energy sources. In addition, smaller nuclear power plants match the needs for regions of the world that lack highly stable, densely interconnected electrical grids.
