The world is a mess. Despots and rebels clash in the Middle East. Political parties battle in governments everywhere, including the United States. Volcanoes and tsunamis wipe out whole regions. Your favorite ball team has lost 12 in a row. In short, there's too much reality. So I'm always glad when spring comes, and with it the season of school musical productions. When well done, these shows have the power to lift audiences into an alternate world where the problems may be bizarre, but they're different from current world problems, and they get resolved by show's end, usually with a triumphant song and the boy and girl leads living happily ever after. All within a couple of hours.
