Entergy seeks to sell power during renewal period

On March 30, Entergy Corporation announced that Entergy Nuclear Vermont Yankee has negotiated an agreement whereby Vermont Electric Cooperative Inc. (VEC) will buy electricity from the Vermont Yankee plant starting next March, when the reactor's original operating license will be succeeded by its 20-year renewed license. VEC, however, stated that while it has negotiated terms with Entergy, it does not consider this an agreement. VEC's chief executive officer, Dave Hallquist, said that a power purchase contract is dependent on the approval of the VEC board of directors, which was to consider the offer at a meeting on April 26, and on support for the plant's continued operation from the Vermont state government. VEC is Vermont's third-largest supplier of electricity to end-users.
