ACRS favors Point Beach;Monticello work resumes

The last time the Nuclear Regulatory Commission approved a power uprate greater than 1.6 percent was in August 2008. Work has slowed on stretch and extended uprates for a variety of reasons, including decisions by the applicants. Recently, however, there have been two signs of progress: The Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards' (ACRS) endorsement of 17 percent uprates for NextEra Energy's Point Beach-1 and -2 in Wisconsin, and the NRC's reactivation of Northern States Power Company-Minnesota's (NSPM) request for a 12.9 percent boost at Monticello.
