THE PROPOSED RULE TO CERTIFY THE ESBWR is open to public comments through June 7. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission announced in the March 24 Federal Register that it had issued the proposed rule to certify the design of the GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy boiling water reactor. Once it is certified, it can be cited in license applications, and all nuclear safety issues will be resolved in advance, as long as the license applicant adheres to the design. Comments will be accepted by mail to the Secretary, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Washington, DC 20555-0001, Attn.: Rulemakings and Adjudications Staff, or by e-mail to , with Docket ID NRC-20I0-0I35 in the subject line.
