A low-key refueling results in outage success

The installation of a new transformer was one of the bigger jobs carried out during Fermi-2's last outage, which ran from October 24 to December 1,2010. The outage included 3400 inspections and equipment maintenance activities and the replacement of about one-third of the reactor fuel. Fermi-2, located in Newport, Mich., is an 1150-MWe General Electric boiling water reactor operated by Detroit Edison Company. The refueling was the plant's 14th since it began operating in January 1988.
