THE NAS NUCLEAR-SITE CANCER STUDY GROUP scheduled its first public meeting for February 24 in Washington, D.C. At the request of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the National Academy of Sciences has assembled a panel to study cancer incidence and mortality rates for populations living in the vicinity of nuclear power plants and fuel cycle facilities. The NAS study will update data that the NRC has been using since 1990 when communicating with the public about cancer risk.
