The final eis for indian point license renewal was issued on December 3 by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. This completes the NRC staff's documentation related to Entergy Nuclear Operations' application to renew the operating licenses of Units 2 and 3 at the Indian Point site near Buchanan, N.Y. The Westinghouse-design pressurized water reactors, rated at 1035 MWe and 1048 MWe, have licenses that would expire in 2013 and 2015. Renewal would defer the expiration of each license by 20 years. Supplement 38 to NUREG-1437, Generic Environmental Impact Statement for License Renewal of Nuclear Plants, was published in three volumes, with a total of 2195 pages, to accommodate the number of public comments on the draft EIS. The public hearing, with perhaps 17 admitted contentions, may be held before the end of this year.
