How do cats do it?

As some of you know, my colleagues and I like to hang out at the Beta Bar, a downtown watering hole. Being in the shadow of Nuke University and Xenon Nuclear Lab, the Beta Bar is somewhat different from most such establishments. First, there are no big-screen television sets constantly playing sporting events and commercials for beer and shaving products. Most of the Beta Bar's clientele are professors, grad students, engineers, or scientists whose thoughts go deeper than sports and shaving products. The sound system quiet ly plays National Public Radio. And there are magazines to read and discuss: Nuclear News, Radwaste Solutions, Nature, Chemical Digest, Physics Today, Physics Yesterday (for history buffs), and the weekly journal Science, published by the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
