摘要

First, a word about the title. In these enlightened times, we sometimes forget that adult women used to be referred to as "girls." Author Denise Kier-nan thoroughly wraps herself in the World War Ⅱ era and in the terminology of the secretive Manhattan Project. So we get "tubealloy" instead of "uranium," "49" instead of "plutonium," "gadget" instead of "bomb," and "girls" instead of "working women." While it can be a little strange at first to read about T-238 and T-235 or about TFL6, we quickly get used to it.
