The gas hills project has received a record of decision (ROD) from the Bureau of Land Management's Lander Field Office. The ROD authorizes Power Resources Inc., doing business as Cameco Resources, to develop uranium deposits in Wyoming's Fremont and Natrona Counties using in situ recovery. Included in the plans are injection, production, and monitoring wells; well field header houses; pipelines; power lines; access roads; disposal ponds; and satellite facilities. The project was approved with changes that allow for additional on-site processing and require additional environmental protection measures and monitoring to prevent "undue or unnecessary degradation of public lands." The initial public scoping for an environmental impact statement was conducted in the fall of 2010. The draft EIS was made available for comment in the fall of 2012, and the final EIS was released in the fall of 2013.
