On February 17, the Babcock & Wilcox Company (B&W) announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with TerraPower to support the development of TerraPower's Generation IV traveling wave reactor. The commercial traveling wave reactor plant design is an 1150-MWe liquid sodium-cooled fast reactor that uses as fuel the depleted uranium resulting from the process used to enrich the fuel for current light-water reactors. With the conceptual design phase under way, B&W said that it will provide support to TerraPower as the project enters the preliminary design phase.
