The callaway-2 col application has been withdrawn by Ameren Missouri. The company had originally proposed an Areva U.S. EPR pressurized water reactor as the second reactor at the Callaway site near Fulton, Mo., but less than a year after the July 2008 submittal of the combined operating license application, Ameren suspended the project. Since then, Ameren proposed to switch to an early site permit, and then shelved the U.S. EPR in favor of a joint venture with Westinghouse Electric Company to develop the Westinghouse Small Modular Reactor; this ended when Westinghouse halted work on its SMR in 2014. In late September, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission posted Ameren's August 12 withdrawal letter online. Technically, the application is not deemed to be withdrawn until the NRC has given its approval, but Ameren considers the project to be ended.
