New contentions on the crow butte license renewal were the subject of an Atomic Safety and Licensing Board ruling issued on March 16. Crow Butte Resources' in situ leach uranium recovery facility near Crawford, Neb., first received a license in 1988. In November 2007, the company applied for its second 10-year license renewal. By October 2014, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff had completed an environmental assessment (EA) for the proposed renewal (NN, Dec. 2014, p. 109), and intervenors in the project-the Oglala Sioux Tribe and a group known as Consolidated Intervenors-were permitted to file new contentions on the EA. The ASLB held oral arguments on these contentions on February 17.
