APR 1400 docketed for certification review

On its second try, the consortium behind the design of the APR1400 pressurized water reactor has gained the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's acceptance of a design certification application. The NRC informed Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Company (KHNP) and Korea Electric Power Corporation (Kepco) on March 4 that the application has been found to contain suffi- cient information to allow for the start of technical reviews. The first submittal, in September 2013, was returned by the NRC three months later for lacking such detail. After several pre-application meetings between the consortium and the NRC, a new application was submitted in December 2014.
