Numerous articles have been written in recent years regarding the potential impact on energy providers of the aging demographics of the workforce. At the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, work has been under way over the past eight years to implement a comprehensive workforce strategy to address the station's workforce challenges. Palo Verde, the nations largest nuclear power plant, is located west of Phoenix in Win-tersburg, Ariz., and is managed by Arizona Public Service Company. The intent of this article is to provide an approach for the industry and human resources and training professionals as to how to implement a successful workforce planning and training strategy.
