Changing demographics are forcing private enterprises as well as governments to rethink how they structure their employee pension plans. Despite reform strategies, increased life expectancy is likely to make it necessary for more people to work well beyond the traditional retirement age. As a result, corporate learning and development professionals will need to revamp their programs to address the distinctive abilities of employees age 65+ and facilitate the transmittal of their tacit knowledge to younger colleagues. Such proactive steps will not only help keep personnel motivated, engaged, and productive at every stage of their career, but also help guarantee the organization's own future.
