CONTRACTS FOR STAGE III OF INDIA'S KUDANKULAM PROJECT were signed on July 31 between Russian engineering company Atomstroyexport, the general contractor for the project, and Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL). The contracts cover priority design work and major equipment supply for Units 5 and 6 at the plant site in the state of Tamil Nadu. According to Andrey Lebedev, vice president of projects in southern Asia for ASE Engineering Company, with the signing of the contracts, the project for the construction of Units 5 and 6 at Kudankulam has entered the "practical implementation phase."
