The Department of Energy is con-sidering 11 options for ensuring the continued safe storage of radioactive waste in two closed tunnels at the Hanford Site near Richland, Wash. The options, which were outlined in a corrective actions report released by the DOE on August 1, range from placing a high-density polyethylene cover over the tunnels to using explosives to collapse the tunnels and then covering them with clean soil.
