DOE to develop EIS for proposed fast reactor

On August 5, in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the Department of Energy published notice in the Federal Register that it will develop an environmental impact statement (EIS) to study the impacts of building the proposed Versatile Test Reactor (VTR). The EIS will evaluate alternatives for a versatile reactor-based fast-neutron source facility and associated facilities to be used for the testing and post-irradiation examination of experimental nuclear fuels and materials.
