THE NRC IS REQUESTING COMMENTS ON CHANGES TO THE ROP following congressional backlash against the agency staff's proposed revisions to the Reactor Oversight Process (ROP), issued on June 28. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff's near-term ROP enhancements were described in "Recommendations for Enhancing the Reactor Oversight Process" (SECY-19-0067), released July 16. The staff is also evaluating long-term enhancements to the problem identification and resolution inspection program, the cross-cutting issues process, radiation protection inspection procedures, the inspection program for independent spent fuel storage installations (ISFSI), and the significance determination process (SDP), particularly in the area of emergency preparedness.
