Shikoku Electric Applies to Install Spent Fuel Dry Storage Facility at Ikata Station

Japan’s Shikoku Electric Power Co. filed an application with the Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) on May 25, to construct a spent fuel facility at its Ikata Nuclear Station on Shikoku Island. The proposed facility would be built on the Ikata site to temporarily store spent fuel from the reactors before its transfer to the Rokkasho Reprocessing Plant in Aomori Prefecture. The utility hopes to begin operating the facility in 2023.
