Ohio Governor Signs Repeal of Nuclear Subsidy; FirstEnergy to Refund US$26M to Customers

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine todaysigned legislation to dismantle partsof House Bill 6 (HB6) that providedbillions in ratepayer funds to energycompanies.House Bill 128 (HB128), which takeseffect in 90 days, repeals part of the lawat the center of a bribery scheme withinHB6 signed into law last year. HB128rescinds a US$1 billion-plus subsidyfor Ohio's Perry (1,240 MWe BWR) andDavis-Besse (894 MWe PWR) NuclearPower Plants. FirstEnergy said todayit will refund customers $26 millioncollected under the “decoupling” policybetween January 2020 and last month.
