The Netherlands Considers Nuclear to Reach Climate Goals

The Netherlands is considering whether to extend the life of its sole nuclear power plant and also build new nuclear power facilities.The Dutch government is reportedly interested in nuclear power again as it accepted several initiatives in recent weeks to ensure nuclear power can remain one of its low-carbon energy sources. The country’s only nuclear power facility, the single-unit (482 MWe PWR) Borssele Nuclear Power Plant, is scheduled to shut down in 2033. The government has now started to assess the legal framework for extending the plant’s lifetime by an additional 10-20 years.
