USDOE Launches New Demonstration Center for Advanced Nuclear Technologies

The US Department of Energy (DOE)this week launched the NationalReactor Innovation Center (NRIC),which will assist with development ofadvanced nuclear energy technologiesby harnessing the "world-classcapabilities of the DOE nationallaboratory system."Under the Nuclear Energy InnovationCapabilities Act, NRIC will supportprivate sector technology developersto test and demonstrate reactorconcepts and assess their performance.This will help accelerate the licensingand commercialization of new nuclearenergy systems, according to anAugust 15 DOE statement. NRIC willbe led by Idaho National Laboratoryand builds upon the successes of DOE’sGateway for Accelerated Innovation inNuclear Initiative.
