DOE LOOKING TO EXPEDITE, SIMPLIFY LOAN GUARANTEES

The Department of Energy hopes that changes to the way the agency disburses innovative energy loan guarantees may speed up the process of awarding those guarantees, Energy Secretary Steven Chu said last week, as he announced several changes aimed at "streamlining" the program. The effects those changes will have on the issuance of loan guarantees for nuclear projects was unclear last week, however, as the loan guarantees program office was undertaking the next round of due diligence on a group of five nuclear loan guarantee applicants which will likely lead to a further narrowing of the field.
