Oma Delayed

The planned startup of Oma 1 has been delayed by two and a half years, according to owners J-Power. The 1383MWe ABWR in Japan's Aomori prefecture is now scheduled to begin operation in November 2014. Oma 1 will use an all mixed uranium-plutonium oxide (MOX) core, with the MOX supplied from JNFL's Rokkasho Reprocessing Plant. The Rokkasho plant, which will be able to reprocess 800t of spent fuel a year, began active tests in March 2006. Commercial operation was expected by the end of 2008, but has been delayed.
