Politicians around the world increasingly view nuclear as having an essential role in reducing carbon dioxide emissions. Clearly, this is good news for the industry and can only lead to the global deployment of nuclear power on a huge scale - so long as those politicians decide that they must do their bit towards reducing carbon emissions. Unfortunately, even with the end of the world imminent, none can agree on what their bit actually is. Non-binding commitments are easy, with politicians constantly outdoing each other on percentage emissions cuts their respective parties would 'commit' to by some date long after their political careers are over. But it's a completely different matter when it comes to reaching any binding emissions reductions of anywhere near the order that everyone apparently agrees is necessary.
