Japanese utilities respond to the tsunami

In March, Japanese electric power utilities begun addressing and reviewing their earthquake and tsunami measures. Some of the measures that are to be undertaken by the utilities include the construction of tsunami defences and the deployment of portable power generators. Many utilities have suspended construction of new nuclear plants or have decided not to restart units undergoing maintenance until safety reviews have been completed. So far four new Japanese nuclear projects have been suspended or postponed (see Table 2, p24).
