As of last month, the fee charged to US electricity customers to build a geological repository will no longer be collected. The U.S. Department of Energy has halted collection of the $750 million/year surcharge following a court challenge due to the stoppage of Yucca Mountain. The laboratory for Finland's deep geological waste repository has bottomed out at 455m, Finnish nuclear waste management agency Posiva has reported.
